PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

KLAS Engineering, Cookeville TN 2018-PRESENT

Design and consultation

Engineer, Owner

Started by own S-Corp to do full time consulting.  Currently in a 1-year contract with a Nashville company designing LED lighting systems, advising/pursuing UL and FCC certification of their products.  Also, finishing up a contract to design a leveling system using a pressure transducer and communicating that data to smart devices utilizing BTLE.

PROVENTIX SYSTEMS, Birmingham, AL 2015-2018

Design and manufacturing hand hygiene monitoring systems using RFID technology

Director of Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing, Installation and Maintenance

Responsible for all hardware engineering, manufacturing of current products, and manage the installations of the Proventix system in hospitals country wide.

PROVENTIX SYSTEMS, Birmingham, AL 2012-2015

Design and manufacturing hand hygiene monitoring systems using RFID technology

Senior Principle RF Engineer

Circuit design including analog circuits, digital circuits (Microcontroller circuits with coding in C++), and RF circuits (various transmission lines, structures, transitions, and antennas).  Responsible for research, schematic entry, circuit board layout, Gerber generation and review, PCB ordering, part stuffing, testing, revising designs and getting product into production.  Wrote 26-page whitepaper on RF interference and coexistence issues in ISM band for hospital staff to understand RFID technology.  Design, schematic entry and layout of active RFID tag into a SOM using a JEDEC SODIMM DDR2 form factor. PCB was 6 layers.  Involved with FCC certification and UL60950 testing and listing.  Designed PCBs with VIP technology for miniaturization.  For the last 5 months, I have had to step into a role of installer.  The previous installer was let go and I was the best fit for temporary replacement because of my experience as a technician, ability to interact with various levels of hospital staff and my ability to organize material and time for seamless installs while minimizing costs.  I am now more involved with documenting the proper installation techniques and providing as-builts to each facility.

Innovative Electronic Solutions 2010-2018

Design and consultation

Engineer, Owner

My company is available for product design, design review and product manufacturing.    Below is a list of past and open contracts.

Open – Redesign of leveling system with BTLE connectivity to smart phones.

Contract – Previous TDR project was modified.  I am involved with schematic entry, PCB layout, BOM creation and mechanical design integration.

Contract – PCB layout for Griffin Technologies.  Responsible for 3D modeling interaction with mechanical engineers so that PCB fits housings correctly.

Contract – Occasional design of various test jigs using Cypress PSoC3 for an automotive filtration company.

Contract – Design of Ultrasonic Cleaner using Cypress PSoC4 for control.  Designed product to meet UL61010 and was responsible for getting product through Certified Test Lab for UL listing.

Contract – Redesign of fuse panel to minimize the manufacturing costs.  Currently producing the panels for the telecommunication industry.

Contract – Customer needed an Orcad schematic of TDR design converted to Altium and then perform layout.  PCB was 128 channel TDR on 8 layer double sided PCB.

Contract - Performed a schematic and PCB analysis for a major manufacturer’s outsourced design.  Helped their internal quality management team to verify that the manufacturer's product was meeting their criteria.

Contract - Developed power circuit and PCB for a new patent, created technical documentation for the patent submittal and manufactured 55 prototypes.

Contract – Design, schematic entry, PCB layout of single-gang outlet controller and switching controller based on the power line communication module of Cypress PSoC3.

RESEARCH ELECTRONICS INTERNATIONAL, Algood, Tennessee 1998-2009

Design and manufacturing electronic counter surveillance equipment

Engineering Supervisor

Circuit Design including analog circuits (audio, power), digital circuits (Microcontroller circuits with coding in C++), and RF circuits (various transmission lines structures and transitions, various filter topologies, Dielectric Resonator Oscillator).  Led design process of research, schematic entry, circuit board layout, Gerber generation and review, PCB ordering, part stuffing, testing, revising designs and creating technical manuals for technicians.  Spent the last 2 years with 3D electromagnetic simulation software (Ansoft’s H.F.S.S.) to design planer antennas and microwave structures.  Supervised engineering group with coordination of product development from design process through production.  Implemented a technical documentation program for products going into production including product quality control test procedures.
